The Nerdery Movie Night #15: Finding Dory and Bacon Jalapeño Popcorn

Spicy, salty, heart-attack-in-a-bowl popcorn + possibly Donald Trump's favorite Disney Pixar film?

Bacon Jalapeño Popcorn

Dave: This movie was cute enough, I guess. We were both wowed by the cast list at the end: Idris Elba, Kate MacKinnon, Alison Janney...it seems like they could have thrown in a few good cameo jokes! It was a sweet film but not as affecting as some of my favorite kids' films like Toy Story 3 and Inside Out. But it was inoffensive and easy to follow. I can see why it appeals to Donald Trump (he apparently screened it at the White House in the first few weeks of his presidency). (⭐️⭐️⭐️)

This popcorn wasn't sophisticated like the bleu cheese almond or brown butter lemon, but it was still delicious. Frying the jalapeños was a bit time-consuming and messy; along with the bacon we're both probably hastening ourselves towards blood pressure problems and heart disease. But we're having a good time doing it. (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 1/2)

Joe: There is one reason to see this movie: Becky. Becky was hilarious. The rest of the film, sadly, did not live up to its predecessor. It lacks the humorous, manic punch of Degeneres' best delivery and the plot is essentially a retread of the original. The intent is all heart, and I admire that, but that's about it. (⭐️⭐️⭐️)

Now this is a variation on a theme I can get behind - unlike the movie. We had bacon-chive popcorn a while back, and it was delightful. This, however, is a fine upgrade. The fiery spark of the jalapeño with the greasy salt of the bacon and the subtle earthiness of the chives was a divine combination. It could possibly find its way into the Top Ten. (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2)
