The Nerdery Movie Night #22: Price Check & Herb Popcorn

Updated: Feb 24, 2019

WHY DOES HERB POPCORN NOT TASTE LIKE HERBS?

Herb Popcorn

Dave: I really wanted to like this movie. I love Parker Posey and the plot seemed like it would be decent. But Posey was a bit hemmed in by her role, which was probably just described to her as: be yourself but instead of yourself, you're an amoral businessperson. She didn't really pull it off and came across as a bit schizophrenic, but not in an endearing Parker Posey way. None of the other characters had any real depth. The movie was made in 2012, but it feels like one of those boilerplate 1990s "we have little dramas in a boring office" movies. Alas, they can't all be winners. (⭐️⭐️)

Despite all the green things in it, this popcorn just tasted like butter and salt. That's not to say it was bad, but we could've saved a lot of trouble growing and cutting up fresh herbs if we'd just made popcorn with butter and salt. We did eat the whole bowl though. (⭐️⭐️1/2)

Joe: To me, Price Check embodies everything that's wrong with indie movies. Great concept heightened by cringeworthy moments that are ultimately undone by a lack of direction and unsatisfying resolution. And this film's resolution is beyond pointless. It negates everything that comes before it. Parker Posey, however, is brilliant. Because she's always brilliant. (⭐️⭐️)

I was really looking forward to this popcorn. Fresh herbs from our ersatz city garden! With popcorn! But honestly, this just tasted like buttery, overly salty popcorn. Every now and then, there'd be a hit if chervil's licorice-y bite, but mostly it was salt. However: I think I'll make this one again, reducing the salt and adding more herbs. It certainly has potential. (⭐️⭐️⭐️)
