The Nerdery Movie Night #32: A Dark Song & Chipotle Popcorn

We find: 1) a surprisingly creepy horror film and 2) that Corn Nuts are hard to procure outside of gas stations.

Dave: Usually Netflix horror movies are serviceable: a few scares and some minor dread and that’s it. While A Dark Song wasn’t perfect, watching two characters trapped in a remote house with a supernatural element really amps up the spook factor. The acting was great and the slow-building suspense was deliciously terrifying. Even if the end was abrupt and the moral of the film nearly bashed you over the head, this is definitely a film to watch if you want to be creeped out. I’m definitely leaving the night-light on tonight! (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️)

Even if chipotle popcorn was pretty spicy, and if Corn Nuts are hard to find outside cheap gas stations, this popcorn was delicious. As usual, we had the problem of our popcorn shrinking and being slightly tough when we apply a sauce, but I’m still hoping that’s user error. I’m hoping that’s fixable, and that’s not only because the spicy popcorn made me down my cocktails quicker than usual. Not in my top 10, but a damn sight better than some of our popcorn adventures. Joe: Like the best horror movies, A Dark Song proves that graphic violence isn’t necessary to be absolutely terrifying (though there is a bit of violence in the final third). Atmosphere, tension, and intrigue fuel the plot here, and the film never attempts to explain away any of the phenomena. All of this is heightened by beautiful cinematography and a chilling music score. There’s a bit of cheesiness in the final three minutes, but it doesn’t distract from the raw terror that precedes it. With A Dark Song, you’ll likely get intimately acquainted with your goosebumps. (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2)

Do you like chipotle? What about Chipotle™? Do you like chipotle with a side of chipotle and drizzled with some more chipotle? Do you like your mouth feeling like it’s on fire and the only way to temper it is to put more of the fire in it? Do you like Corn Nuts™? Do you think Chipotle™ should offer Corn Nuts™ like it offers guacamole and zesty salsas? Well, this popcorn is for you. And it’s kinda for me. Mostly because I like Corn Nuts™. (⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2)
