Tiffany Haddish is a national treasure - and so is this popcorn.
Dave: Was this movie a little cheesy? Probably. Did some of the main characters chew enough scenery to feed a small village? Yes, definitely. But it was hilarious and had a guest appearance by Mariah Carey. And the blooper reel is worth its weight in gold. It’s not high art, but it’s fun, full of amazing black women, and worth a watch. (⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2)
Sweet popcorn has been difficult for us. I think the secret is lots of salt and making a smaller recipe than normal. This was sweet but not cloying and pretty easy to put together. It would be good party popcorn if you didn’t need a dozen towels and a few Wet Ones to make it through a bowl. Seriously I kind of need to shower to get all the chocolate and marshmallow off. That said, I’d definitely eat it again. (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2)
Joe: The raunch factor is through the roof, but unlike other “hard-R” comedies, Girls Trip is actually hilarious. I haven’t laughed this much since Bridesmaids. All four principals are phenomenal, but I feel bad for any of the actors in a scene with Tiffany Haddish. She stole every scene. It’s about time Hollywood found someone of her caliber. For a real treat, watch the outtakes on the DVD. The film could’ve easily been a half hour longer without losing an ounce of steam.#blackgirlmagic indeed. (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2)
For those of you who have valiantly stuck with the past 36 Nerdery movie nights, you will note that there hasn’t yet been a sweet popcorn that we’ve rallied behind. In fact, when Dave mentioned that he was going to make one of the remaining sweet popcorns, I could hardly hide my disappointment. In fact, I insisted he make half as much as we usually do. He complied. I wish he hadn’t. Y’all - this is the truth: rocky road popcorn is the gospel. Sweet and salty, chocolatey and decadent - at last, a winner. Absolutely scrummy. (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2)
