The Nerdery Movie Night #90: Fun Mom Dinner and Mediterranean Popcorn

Toni Collette 4 president. And also Mediterranean popcorn 4 president. Actually, anyone or anything for president except the orange-dusted buffoon who has, perhaps, lit the tinderbox for WWIII. Yay, America. But also Yay, Toni Collette. And Mediterranean popcorn.

Mediterranean Popcorn

Dave: Judging from the Mom comedies we’ve seen, moms love the 80s and love almost cheating on their husbands. While Fun Mom Dinner wasn’t a cinematic triumph or a revelatory take on the genre, it was good fun. I do wish Bridget Everett and Toni Collette had been able to flex their comedic muscle a bit more, but all in all it was a fun - if slightly ridiculous and hackneyed- film (⭐️⭐️⭐️)

I could eat a bucket of this stuff, even if it was a little bit messy. The sweet and salty touch of the sun dried tomatoes paired with the crunchy pine nuts and olive oil made some of the best popcorn we’ve had so far. I could have sworn the recipe included Parmesan cheese, but Joe swears it didn’t. I’m sure the popcorn was full of salt and fat, but I’d make this again in a heartbeat if pine nuts didn’t cost approximately a million dollars an ounce. (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2)

Joe: Dave and I saw Knives Out a couple weeks ago. It was phenomenal. The acting was superb, and one actress consistently stole every scene: Toni Collette. I sometimes forget how amazing she is. Then I see her in a movie, and I'm like, "Oh my god. Toni Collette." She could literally polish any turd (am I right, Ally?). Fun Mom Night isn't a turd. But it also isn't genius. In fact, Collette + Molly Shannon + Bridget Everett should be solid gold. It isn't. It's occasionally funny - sometimes gut-busting funny. But it's also filled to the brim with missed opportunities. But Toni Collette. She's really one of the best actresses working in Hollywood, and I can hardly believe she's only been nominated for a single Academy Award. I'd give her one for this performance just because she's Toni Collette and made Fun Mom Night more watchable than it should have been. (⭐️⭐️⭐️)

You know how we're always gushing over the recipes that we've made on the Popcorn Board's website? And you know how, consistently, their popcorns have been better than any of those we tried from the Food Network? There's a reason for this, apparently. The Popcorn Board is staffed by geniuses. Every time I think, "Goodness, it can't get any better than [insert Popcorn Board recipe here]!" they outdo themselves. Friends, I think Mediterranean popcorn is their swan song. Words cannot describe how delicious it is. I will merely urge you to go to their website, find the recipe, make it, and thank me later. You won't even be pissed that you spent $7 on pine nuts and $5 on a ridiculously small amount of sun-dried tomatoes (in olive oil! Make sure they're in olive oil!), like we did. It's that good. Why are you still reading this? Go. Make. This. Popcorn. Link below. (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐)

Special Guest Evaluation: O'Leo Loki, Dave's friend from Trinidad who's visiting us!

O'Leo: It was a great movie to make coffee and eat festive gourmet popcorn to. Toni Collette shined in this female self-masturbation flick that sent relationships back to the 80s wearing a hoodie. (⭐️⭐️⭐)

A festive Mediterranean handful of kernels that melted in your mouth and took you back to Greece with its color, tastes, and textures. (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2)

Popcorn recipe from: Popcorn.org. (The Popcorn Board, 2019).
